Troubleshooting Wireless Connection Problems
The steps listed below can troubleshoot and possibly resolve the most common problems that can cause loss of your Wireless Internet connection.
1. Check router LEDs for Power, WAN, and the port that your PC is connected to, these should all be lit. If any of these are not lit please check that the cables are fully plugged in.
2. Power cycle the router. Follow the power cord from the back of the router to the electrical outlet. Physically unplug it from the outlet for at least 30 seconds. This allows it to power cycle. After it is back on restart your Computer(s). Occasionally all broadband routers need to be power cycled. Check your connection when your computer comes back up.
3. Check the power supply for the Airspan which is almost always near the router. This should have a small light to indicate that it has power.
4. Power cycle the Airspan, by unplugging the power supply for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. It will take 30-45 seconds for the Airspan to begin working again. Reboot your PC.
5. Do you have a software firewall such as Zone Alarm, Norton Personal Firewall, or the Windows XP firewall? If so, disable it and reboot your PC. You may also need to actually uninstall the software firewall. This is especially true with Zone Alarm.
6. Go to Start / Run and type 'command' in the window than hit OK, this will open the Command Prompt. From prompt, type "ipconfig" and hit the enter key. If you get the error - Media State Disconnected, you do not have physical connection to the router. Check the Ethernet cable from the PC to the router and/or swap ports on the router.
You should have a "Link" light lit on the appropriate port of the router. If you have a link to the Router your IP address should be 192.168.X.X and Gateway should be 192.168.X.X.
If your IP address is 169.254.X.X, your computer is not reaching the router. You may need to reboot computer.
7. Ping IP address of Default Gateway. From Command Prompt, type: ping 192.168.0.1 for Dlink Routers, 192.168.1.1 for ZyXEL Routers. If you don't get replies, you are not getting to the router or router is faulty.
8. Reset the Router. It is possible that a full reset will resolve a connection problem. To perform this you will need to inset a pointy object (e.g. paper clip, pin) into the small reset hole to the rear of the Router. This is located beside the power connection.
Press and hold the object into the hole for approximately 12 seconds. The lights should then flash to indicate that the reset was successful. The next step is to follow your router setup instructions:
9. If you can ping the router, then try: 'ping 216.239.39.99'. If you get replies you are online. Now try ping 'google.com' if you get an "Unknown host" error, there is a DNS problem (see below). If you get replies, but still cannot go to yahoo web site, there is some problem with your browser. Try clearing your cache & cookies. If you are unsure how to do this please click here.
10. DNS problem: from command prompt window, type: "ipconfig /all". Your DNS servers should show as two of the following IP's - 83.147.160.2, 83.147.160.130, or 83.147.161.146. If yours are different, please complete the following:

For Windows 98 go to start/settings/control panel/network/'TCP/IP'/properties/DNS configuration/enter the following: 83.147.160.2 then click add, and then enter 83.147.160.130 / 83.147.161.146 then click add |
