I'm in one of those towns – can I get the service ?
The wireless broadband service requires a clear line of sight between the antenna on your building and our transmitter. Any obstacle such as trees and buildings will block the signal. If you order the service and we cannot complete the installation due to some obstacle or other problem, we will refund your entire payment immediately.
I'm outside the coverage area or in another town – is there any way to get the service ?
Yes – there are a few avenues still open to getting this service. We will be continually expanding this service into areas where genuine demonstrated demand exists and would welcome hearing from you. Also, we can establish dedicated point-to-point links which reach outside the coverage area and which may be justified for some medium-large businesses (extra equipment and costs are involved). Outside of these options we do offer satellite based services which deliver an independent broadband link into any location in the country – click here to visit our dedicated satellite broadband website.
Can I install the equipment myself ?
No – we require that the equipment be installed by one of our qualified technicians or approved installers.
Where is the service available ?
The service is immediately available in:
Abbeyleix, Ardee, Ballycastle (Mayo), Blackrock (Louth), Boyle, Carrick on Shannon, Carlingford, Carna, Cavan, Clonmel, Clifden, Cootehill, Corraun (Mayo), Donabate, Dunleer, Durrow, Kells, Knockbridge, Kilcar, Mohill, Monaghan, Navan , Sligo, Trim, Tubbercurry, Virginia (Cavan)
Does the Install cost include purchase of the broadband equipment ?
No – the stated installation costs cover an approved installer visiting your location and completing a standard installation of our equipment at your premises, and includes the cost of cabling, mounting poles, connectors, and brackets (which become your property). There is a further charge for the integrated radio and antenna unit which remains the Customers' property at all times. Click here for details.
Can I network the equipment to other computers ?
Yes – using a suitable device you can share the connection with up to 3 computers in your house for the Home service, and can connect any of the Business services to your office network. You may not share the service with other houses, apartments, other businesses, or with any other third party. For network installations you may need to purchase additional equipment.
Are there restrictions on where I can place the antenna ?
The antenna is small and unobtrusive, effectively a 12cm square plastic box. It must be mounted with a clear line of sight to our central basestation, so this usually means it will be mounted similar to a TV aerial from your chimney or upper floors of your building. Our installers will strive to locate the antenna as unobtrusively as possible.
Please note that if you do not own the building or if you are located in a listed or preserved building, additional permissions are required.
How is the service connected to my computer or network ?
From the integrated radio and antenna unit mounted at roof height, a single data cable is brought down to near ground level on the outside of the building, and enters the building through a single hole which will be sealed with silicon filler, and terminated in a wallmount data socket. A special Power-Over-Ethernet (POE) connector is used to power the radio unit and this will require a nearby power socket. A patch cable is provided to connect from the data socket to your computer network port or network device.
Is this service secure ?
A number of measures are taken to ensure that the data travelling between your computer and our basestation is at least as secure as your data travelling across the internet itself. As this is an always-on broadband connection to the internet we do strongly recommend that you take additional precautions to secure your system.
Is the speed guaranteed?
The service is offered similar to other internet services where the connection is effectively shared between a number of users, so the quoted speeds are the maximum speeds achievable. The Home service uses a variable contention of up to 36:1, and the Business services use a variable contention of up to 18:1, and just 10:1 for Business Enhanced and Enterprise. This compares favourably to the 24 or 48:1 contention used with DSL services from Eircom or Esat, and much higher contention used by ISPs for normal dialup internet services. You will find that your Digiweb Wireless Broadband service is typically somewhere between 10 and 40 times faster than your dialup connection depending on the service selected.
Are there restrictions or limits ?
There are traffic quotas applied to all packages and should you exceed these traffic quotas, your connection will be restricted until you return below an appropriate level equal to 80% of the traffic quota.
For details on the traffic limitations applicable to your pacakge please click Here for Homewave and Here for Bizwave. These limitations are imposed to ensure a good level of service for all subscribers. Digiweb do reserve the right to treat certain types of traffic with lower priority on the network to ensure the majority of users enjoy the best available speeds as far as possible. Such lower priority traffic may include file-sharing applications such as Kazaa, Morpheus, and similar for example.
If you are regularly reaching the traffic limit on a particular package, we recommend you upgrade to a higher package. There is no additional setup or install fee to upgrade.
Will my existing email account work?
Depending on the email you use at present you may be able to continue using it without any disruption. A few common examples are:
|
All Digiweb Wireless Broadband services include email services with POP mail accounts, outgoing SMTP server, and Web-Based Email access. Home services include 10 email accounts so each member of the family can have a private address, and Business services support 100-300 email accounts at your own company domain name
Do you provide Hosting Services ?
Professional level hosting services are automatically included with all Business level broadband connections, including a free domain if required (i.e. applies only to new domain registrations). (While email is included with Home services, web hosting is not included).
Speed of Internet
No matter how fast your connection to the Internet, speeds on the Internet itself can affect download performance. Other factors that govern an Internet download speed include:
The performance of the server hosting the requested website
The bandwidth of the connection between the website's server and the Internet
Internet traffic patterns
Router latency
Backbone usage
Type of file transfer (FTP file transfers download at higher speeds than HTML web pages.)
Time of day (Certain times of day tend to have higher Internet traffic than others.)
Your PC (Some components may impose speed limitations.)
