SERVICE and USAGEIs there anything different about using the Metro voice service and my home phone?
Using metro is exactly the same as using your home phone you make and receive calls in exactly the same way.
You may notice some subtle differences when you first use the service but these are minor:-
- Due to the nature of the technology you may notice a slight delay after you dial the number until you hear a ringing tone, this is typically 3-4 seconds when you call a landline and 5-6 seconds for calls to a mobile phone
- Ringing and engaged tones are very slightly different but easily recognizable most people either do not notice this at all or forget it in a very short time.
Can I port (move) my existing phone number and what is the cost?
Yes – existing phone numbers can be ported and there is a charge of €50.00 + vat per number ported.

Can I port my phone number from Digiweb back to eircom at a later date?
Yes – how this is charged is down to eircom
How do I port my number?
1) Complete the porting form by downloading it and return it with a copy of your most recent eircom bill
2) Porting takes from 4-6 weeks
Do I have to port my number?
No – Digiweb will provide you with a new number such as 01 or 021 etc…there is no charge for this
Will my existing analogue/DECT phone work?
Yes – Please note for UK DECT phones/fax machines, you need the UK cable and a proper UK/Irish adaptor with ringing capacitor built in.
What do you install inside my house/business?
We install an EMTA (Enhanced Multimedia Terminal Adaptor). This has 2 phone ports (RJ-11) One Ethernet port and one USB port
How big is the outside radio?

The outside radio is about half the size of a standard alarm box and is white. |

What do I need on my computer to connect the modem?
For USB - Ethernet is recommended rather than USB which supports Windows2000/Me/XP or Mac OS 7.6.1
For Ethernet - It is recommended to have Windows2000/Me/XP or Mac OS 7.6.1 or higher
The modem's USB connection is not supported by Windows 98. If you are using Windows 98 you will need to connect an ethernet card to your PC.
Do I have to cancel my eircom line / move my eircom line etc to get the service?
No - this service is delivered using our next generation wireless network – it has nothing to do with your current phone line. If however you port your existing Eircom number to Digiweb Metro, this will automatically be completed.
Can I make calls to 112 / 999?
Yes – this has been tested. Please remember though that your EMTA requires electricity to work. If there is a total power failure in your home/business then the phone service would also stop working.
Is your voice service a standard VoIP service?
No - Our voice service follows the principles outlined by cable labs for Packet voice. It is a PATS replacement technology and our network is optimised to guarantee voice quality.
Can I change to another provider using CPS (carrier pre select)?
No - this is currently not supported.
What happens if I have no Dial tone or cant make a call?
Have a look at the front of the modem. If your phone is on the hook you should see a steady green light for "Tel1" and or "Tel2"
Is it possible to share my connection with more than one computer?
Yes - You will need to purchase an Ethernet Broadband Router to do so. Please note: an ADSL Router will not operate with Metro Broadband.
Does the Modem provide a wireless connection to my computer?
No - The computer must be directly connected to the modem using an Ethernet (recommended) or USB cable. If you wish to share the connection wirelessly you will need to purchase a Wireless Ethernet Broadband Router.
I have a monitored alarm service – will the service work?
No - you should keep your existing line for your alarm service. We are currently working on our own home security products.
How can I check my traffic usage?
You can check and monitor your traffic usage at the following link http://mytraffic.digiweb.ie. Please Note: traffic usage includes both Download and Upload.
How is my traffic usage monitored?
Traffic usage is monitored on a 30 days rolling basis.
This means that at any stage when you check your usage, the monitor totals your traffic usage for the previous 30 days.

If I exceed my Traffic Quota, What happens my connection?
If you exceed the traffic quota for your given package, your bandwidth/connection will be restricted i.e. your download/upload speed will be reduced, until you return below the traffic quota equal to the amount of traffic that quota was exceeded by e.g. Quota = 10GB, restriction placed at >12GB i.e. 2GB+ over the quota, restriction removed at <8GB i.e. 2GB+ under the quota.
Can I use the SMS feature on my handset with the Metro phone service?
No - This feature is not supported presently.
Can I use Fax with the Metro phone service?
No, unfortunately Digiweb cannot guarantee the successful operation of Fax over the Metro phone service. However, general one page Faxes should be fine. Please note for UK DECT phones/fax machines, you need the UK cable and a proper UK/Irish adaptor with ringing capacitor built in.
