Skystar Broadband Satellite Quality of Service & Traffic Monitoring

Skystar Broadband Satellite – Quality of Service

Please note this article is only relevant for customers on our Skystar, Skystar Plus, Skystar Pro, Skystar Premium & Skystar Enterprise packages.

QoS is a Network Traffic Management technology for controlling throughput and priorities for Satellite connections.

Please note that traffic is monitored on a 30 days rolling basis. For further details see the Satellite Fair Usage Policy.

You can access your QoS page directly from your satellite connection using the following link http://217.159.0.81.

The QOS allows you to see the traffic on your satellite connection and whether or not the connection is in restriction for either download or upload as below.

When you open the link for your connection you will see the following on the left hand side:

1.
Upload traffic is the sum of all the traffic used in the last 30 days during peak and off peak times.

2.Upload traffic net is the traffic used during peak time and 50% of traffic used during off peak time over 30 days.

3.Download traffic is the sum of all the traffic used in the last 30 days during peak and off peak times.

4.Download traffic net is the traffic used during peak time and 50% of traffic used during off peak time over 30 days.

5.Upload peak throughput is the speed at which the connection is running at. If you go into Light restriction your speed will be halved. This will continue as the connection goes through heavier restrictions i.e. Light = 256kb, medium = 128kb.See Satellite Fair Usage Policy.

6.Download peak throughput is the speed at which the connection is running at. If you go into Light restriction there speed will be halved. This will continue as the connection goes through heavier restrictions i.e. Light = 1024kb, medium = 512kb.See Satellite Fair Usage Policy.

7.This tells you if you have gone into restriction on the upload or download or both.

8.The customers email address is entered here so they can be automatically notified when they are approaching and in restriction.

It then graphs your usage for the last 24hours on the bottom left handside as follows:

and graphs your usage for the last 30days on the bottom right hand side as follows:

If you apply for a service upgrade or if you buy satellite credits (0.11cent per MB + VAT) please note that it may take up to 30 days for these changes to be reflected on your satellite traffic graphs.

NB: Restrictions are fully applied during the Peak hours of between 07.00am and 19.00pm GMT and are relaxed outside of these hours. Also only 50% of all traffic generated outside of these hours is counted towards the next day's traffic therefore it is advisable for you to complete any heavy Download or Upload activity during the Off Peak hours. For full details please refer to the Satellite Fair Usage Policy.
