Email Issues Checklist

Here are some checks you can do if you are having problems with the mail program on your computer.

*NB (Where it says yourdomain.com please enter your own domain name instead.)

1) Do you have the correct username and password and the correct incoming and outgoing mailservers in place?

The username should always be the full email address, the password is the password for that individual mailbox (not the overall hosting account) and both the incoming and outgoing mailservers should be set to mail.yourdomain.com

If you do not have the password you can change it from your control panel here

2) Can you access webmail?

If webmail is working for you then the issue is local to you machine/network. If our server is down the webmail will not be accessible. To access webmail please go to http://mail.yourdomain.com and enter your email address and password.

3) Do you have antivirus / firewall softwatre on your pc?

If you do, please turn it off and then try your mail again. If it is now working ok then you will need to contact whoever looks after your antivirus/firewall and ask them how to get your mail working with it.

After these checks if you are still having problems it may be one of the specific issues below:

If you get an error that says: MTA 553 - that domain isn't allowed to be relayed through this MTA

There are two ways to fix this.

a) download a mail from our server. You should then be able to send straight afterwards.

b) turning on mail authentication in your Outlook

1. Open outlook, click on Tools then Accounts and double click on the

relevant account.

2. Click on the Servers Tab and check if the incoming and outgoing mail

servers are set to mail.yourdomain.com

3. In the section below that ensure that the account name is your full

email address.

4. Below that again ensure that the tick box beside "My mail server

requires authentication" is ticked, then click on its settings and

ensure this first options is chosen.

5. Apply the changes by clicking ok or apply to close the smaller

windows until you are out on the main outlook window.

This should solve your problem now - so try send a mail to see if you

receive the bounce message.

Alternatively you can try using your broadband providers outgoing mailserver. You can only use this to send mail not to receive. You will need to contact their provider to get this then enter it in Outlook by going to

Tools,

Accounts,

Properties,

Servers

and entering it in the Outgoing field.

If you are getting a message when you hit send/receive that says your email is being rejected as spam:

If you are sending to an address not hosted with us it is outside of our control. You will have to contact the person you are trying to send to and ask them to whitelist your address. You should can check as well does your mail contain a html signature or an attachment that could make it look like spam.

If you are getting an error which indicates that you can't access port 25 on our server:

In Outlook go:

Tools,

Accounts,

Properties,

Advanced

and change the port from 25 to 587
