No telnet on Vista or Windows 7

It appears that Windows Vista and Windows 7 have telnet switched off by default. To enable this for simple mailserver troubleshooting, do the following:

  • open control panel
  • Then go into programs
  • Then in programs and features there should be a part that says ‘turn windows features on or off ‘
  • Click ‘turn windows features on or off ‘  then on the list that appears simply choose: Telnet Client
This will then allow you to use the telnet command.
